Meet Haneefah Adam: The Creative Genius Behind Hijarbie

By  |

Last month, Hijarbie (the hijab wearing doll) went viral on the internet. The doll even has her own Instagram account featuring the doll wearing the Islamic veil in a number of fashionable ways. Those who know and follow Haneefah on her social media handles will totally agree that she has more creativity in her little finger than some of us have in our entire bodies. She’s a great artist, blogger and fashion designer.

ArewaLife was privileged to have an interview with Haneefah and below are the excerpts of the interview.

ArewaLife: Who are you and what do you do?

Haneefah: I’m Haneefah Adam, creator of Hijarbie and I currently own and run a modest lifestyle brand, Hanie.

ArewaLife: What’s your background?

Haneefah: I am from Ilorin and grew up there. I currently have a masters degree in pharmacology and drug discovery. I also have a lot of passion for creating things that are reflective on my blog,

ArewaLife: Why hijarbie?

Haneefah: Hijarbie, because of the need to fully represent ones cultural and religious values in toys that children play with. Because they are easily impressionable, there’s the need to play with items that will positively impact on their psychological well being.  I’ve not seen a hijab wearing doll of that type prior to when I created Hijarbie which is what inspired me to create it.

ArewaLife: What memorable responses have you had to your work?

Haneefah: A lot. The most memorable ones will be the ones where girls tag each other on the Instagram page and admire her style and wish they had one to play with while growing up.

ArewaLife: Are the hijarbie dolls available for sale now?

Haneefah: We are working hard to make them available for sale soon.

ArewaLife: What Inspires you?

Haneefah: I’m inspired by nature and also creative thinking.

ArewaLife: If you could have a superpower, What would you have?

Haneefah: Lol! It would be nice to be able to be invisible.

ArewaLife: How do you balance creativity with commerce?

Haneefah: I manage. I’m more of a creative person than a business person. If I can sustain myself and gives creations for free, I would. But I’m continuing to learn and I know some wonderful people who are always willing to help.

ArewaLife: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Haneefah: I hope I have a stronger brand by then and basically be very happy with where I am in life always.

Below are some pictures of Hijarbie.
